Snowman Door Hangers

These were another Dollar Tree find, and again, the regret of not getting more. I got the last three they had in my store, so I had just enough for our kids! I originally bought these with the intention of burning them as well, but then decided I would like them better painted….so the process began of many coats of paint!

I started with the nose since the nose, scarf and part of the hat were raised and the majority of the actual snowman would be white.

I ended up with two to three coats of white on these and two coats for all the other color areas. Then of course there was the touch up needed after I painted the other colors.

I then searched online for some snowman face clip art and let the younger two pick out the face they wanted and tried my best to get close to that look. I just used a pencil to lightly trace the eyes (for the two that were not just dots) and free-handed the dots for the mouth and the larger circle eyes on the green one.

For the names, I again went to Word and typed each kids name out in a font I thought I could easily replicate and did a basic outline with a pencil before using a very fine tip paint brush with black gloss paint. I started with the middle letter of each name in the center, then worked my way out on each side trying to space them evenly.

A few final touch ups for my stray pencil marks and done! For a final keepsake touch, I had the two younger kids make a handprint on the back and painted the year as well. I’ll spray this with a coat of poly just to seal it, but we can pack it away with the Christmas stuff and remember painting them every year.

I will say for this project, if I do this one again, I would use spray paint rather than painting with a brush and start with a fully coated white snowman and add the other colors with a brush. The white craft paint I used took several coats, and I already had it, so nothing spent there, but for the sake of time, spray painting the first coat would’ve been easier.
