Out of all the project pieces I’ve picked up in the last week or so, I decided to get the biggest one out of the way first, so in the last few days I finished up the secretary/shelf piece we picked up. Maybe, if I get some of these smaller projects out of the way, I’ll be able to re-focus on the room renos:)
While maybe not necessary, I wanted this piece for a few reasons. First, it will hopefully keep all the mail, notes, envelopes and other randomness OFF my kitchen counters (fingers crossed…), and, second, I needed a place to store beach towels (think old house, small closets & not a lot of hall or bathroom storage). My plan is to get a few baskets for the lower shelves to hide the towels, but they will be easily accessible in the warmer months!
I decided to just paint this piece with chalk paint and wax, but not to distress it. I’m not really happy with how it turned out though. For some reason, the front desk door opening started cracking as the wax dried and it looks very splotchy.
I’m going to let it be for a while, but will likely go back and paint it with an enamel cabinet paint at some point so it’s a little more crisp. The overall end goal is for this little tucked away corner to be a ‘command center’ of sorts, so, more to come on this area in the future!
For now, I’ve got an even bigger project staring me in the face that has been in the garage for a while and I brought it in and sat it in the dining room thinking I’d just go on and knock that out too:) And, I’m going to try to mix my own chalk paint on this one….yet again, not the room I should be working on, but at least another thing checked off the list!!
